Spiritual Significance of Bananas in Islam:

Bananas are mentioned in the Quran as one of the fruits of Paradise. Surah Al-Waqiah, verse 29 states:

“And [banana] trees layered [with fruit].”

This verse emphasizes the abundance and beauty of Paradise, where fruits such as bananas will be readily available for believers to enjoy. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, used to eat what he found of fruits. Therefore, one of his Sunnah is that he does not leave the good things that Allah created for us, from food and drink for asceticism. On the contrary, Allah forbids considering abandoning good things in life as worship. Allah said:

“Children of Adam, dress well whenever you are at worship, and eat and drink [as We have permitted] but do not be extravagant: God does not like extravagant people. 32 Say [Prophet], ‘Who has forbidden the adornment and the nourishment God has provided for His servants?’ ‘They are [allowed] for those who believe during the life of this world: they will be theirs alone on the Day of Resurrection.”

[al-A’raaf: 31-32].

Bananas are also significant in Islamic tradition. In addition, bananas have symbolic significance in Islamic art and calligraphy. The shape of the banana is sometimes used as a decorative element in Arabic calligraphy, and bananas are often depicted in Islamic miniature paintings as a symbol of abundance and prosperity.
